Global Hanwha Network
Hanwha entered China, one of the world's largest markets, in the early 1990s, and has established local production and trading subsidiaries. Strategic partnerships are being made with Chinese companies to increase the volume of exports to China as well as to other destinations around the world.
Hanwha Corp. operates trading subsidiaries in Hong Kong and Shanghai; an anhydrous sodium sulfate plant in Urumqi; and offices in Beijing, Guangzhou, Shantou, Shenzhen and Shenyang. This network is the import/export channel for steel, metals, petroleum products, petrochemicals and IT products.
Hanwha Chemical is building a PVC plant with an annual output of 300,000 tons in Ningbo. The construction project is proceeding on schedule, and full operation is to begin at the end of 2010. Hanwha L&C has become firmly established in China by setting up plants for automotive bumper parts in Beijing (in 2003) and Shanghai (in 2005). The company currently supplies parts to GM and Volkswagen. Moreover, Hanwha TechM is expanding its sales network for machine tools and strengthening its local presence through the Shanghai office.
In the finance sector, Korea Life Insurance and Hanwha Securities are concentrating their competencies on making inroads into the Chinese market. Korea Life Insurance has opened an office in Beijing to conduct surveys on the Chinese insurance market and to establish joint ventures with local firms. Hanwha Securities has completed its establishment of an office and an asset management firm in Shanghai.
In the future, the Hanwha Group will use China, with its huge growth potential, as a springboard for bolstering global competencies and increasing synergy between affiliates.
