Global Hanwha Network
Besides China, many markets in Asia and the Middle East are showing tremendous growth potential, and Hanwha currently operates ten local subsidiaries and seven offices in these regions. Hanwha's imports and exports of petrochemical products are increasing; the Group operates a golf club and resort in Japan; overseas plant construction orders are rising; and the finance-related business is growing.
The Hanwha Corp. Tokyo subsidiary opened in 1984 to perform import/export and intermediary trades in petrochemicals, IT products, steel, machinery and automotive parts. The company operates a subsidiary in Singapore and offices in Indonesia, Vietnam, Taiwan, the UAE, India and the Philippines to trade mainly in petroleum products, petrochemicals and steel. This network is now expanding into natural resource development projects, including oilfields, gas fields, mineral mines and coal mines. Hanwha Chemical produces various PVC products and is expanding sales in Southeast Asia. The company continues to expand elsewhere, too, finding new opportunities in India and building a new soluble resin plant (10,000MT/yr) in Thailand.
In April 2009, Korea Life Insurance entered Vietnam’s life insurance market, opening branches in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. Steady expansion of this business is planned. Korea Life Insurance has led the development of Korea’s life insurance market for more than six decades and now provides the best products and services to Vietnamese customers, helping to advance this market as well. Hanwha Resort expanded its overseas business by acquiring the country club at Nagasaki Airport in December 2004 and reopening it as the magnificent Ocean Palace Golf Club & Resort.
Hanwha Engineering & Construction started to build Ma’aden power, desalination and ethyleneamine plants in Saudi Arabia in 2008 and expects additional opportunities in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia, the UAE) and North Africa (Algeria) to arise. These growth engines will power Hanwha E&C beyond Korea to become one of the world’s top builders. Hanwha Securities is also Korea’s first in the Kazakhstan securities market.
